Washington Football: 5 Huskies Making an Impact in 2016
Jake Browning
He was a record breaker in high school and his freshman year under center for the Huskies. Now, quarterback Jake Browning seems to do nothing but complete passes, many of them for touchdowns, in his second year at the helm.
Browning leads the nation with 23 passing touchdowns, and he also leads the country in passing efficiency. His quick release stifles opposing pass rushes as much as it freezes secondaries. But what also makes him so effective is his surprising quickness as he evades defenders in the pocket.
The 6’2″ passer’s biggest game this season came against Oregon last Saturday. All he did was throw for six touchdowns and run for two more. Oh, and he completed 78.6% of his passes, finishing with 304 yards and no interceptions. No big deal. All in a day’s work.
Browning goes quietly about his job as the leader of the Husky offense, all the while putting up very loud numbers. But it hasn’t taken long for other people to speak out on his behalf.
The name Browning is now being tossed around like a lottery ball with names like Jackson and Barrett and Watson. Who knows maybe he’ll get a chance to trade handshakes with one or two of these gentleman in the middle of the field when playoff time rolls around.
