College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
The only unbeaten schools ranked lower in the AP Top 25 have been Group of Five schools, but West Virginia should start getting more respect after knocking off TCU on Saturday. Dana Holgorsen’s defense held a high-powered Horned Frogs offense 30 points under its season scoring average. Kenny Hill, one of the top passers in the country, threw for less than half of his regular yardage per game against a tough WVU secondary. On the other side, Skyler Howard threw for 231 yards and four touchdowns to pace West Virginia’s victory, while Rushel Shell had his second straight game over 100 rushing yards.
The Mountaineers are now 6-0 at the midway point of their season. The biggest challenges still lie ahead between WVU and the school’s first Big 12 title. Next weekend the Mountaineers conclude October with a trip to Oklahoma State, then open November at home versus Kansas. They play at Texas on November 12, then turn around for a home showdown against Oklahoma. If they get past that hurdle, West Virginia will still have a road game at Iowa State before concluding the regular season at home against Baylor in what might be a de facto Big 12 title game.
