College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
Louisville rolled out to a 44-0 lead by halftime against NC State, avoiding any chance of an upset like Clemson faced last weekend. The Cardinals were once again led by Heisman hopeful Lamar Jackson, who threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns and added 76 yards and a score with his legs. The Wolfpack mustered just 250 total yards of offense, and quarterback Ryan Finley was picked off three times. Though they lost the shutout in the third quarter, the Louisville defense never let NC State come anywhere near contention on Saturday.
The Cardinals still need two Clemson losses to claim the ACC Atlantic title, but their position in the Top 25 provides a good chance of landing a spot in the Orange Bowl this season if the Tigers reach the College Football Playoff. In conference play, Bobby Petrino’s team has road games against Virginia and Boston College over the next two weeks before finishing its league schedule by November 12 in a home contest against Wake Forest. Louisville then has their showdown at Houston on November 19 before concluding the regular season at home against Kentucky.
