College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
With Leonard Fournette back to his old ways, LSU is most certainly a Top 25 team. The Bayou Bengals got 284 yards and three touchdowns from their preseason Heisman candidate on just 16 carries. LSU pulled away from Ole Miss in the second half as the defense clamped down on the Rebels and the offense continued to hum. Danny Etling outdueled Chad Kelly in a battle of transfer quarterbacks, keeping drives going to secure the win. Though they lost the turnover battle against the Rebels, LSU moved to 5-2 on the year and could be a dark-horse in the SEC West.
The Tigers only have four games left, now that their make-up game against Florida has canceled their game against South Alabama. They get to rest for the rest of the month before hosting Alabama at Death Valley in two weeks. Even if they manage to beat the Tide, things won’t get any easier over the rest of November. LSU plays at Arkansas, hosts Florida in the rescheduled showdown, and closes the regular season at Texas A&M. Under interim head coach Ed Orgeron the Tigers have played inspired football, but it will be tough to go unbeaten the rest of the way.
