College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
On Saturday the Tar Heels took care of business against Virginia to reach bowl eligibility before the end of October and remain in the ACC race. Mitch Trubisky threw for 310 yards and three scores, helping pace North Carolina to a three-touchdown win in Charlottesville that should push them up a few spots in the Top 25. Elijah Hood added 107 yards and a rushing touchdown, while T.J. Logan ran for another score. Virginia had the possession advantage, yet could only muster 253 total yards of offense against a stout UNC defense.
North Carolina still sits behind Virginia Tech in the ACC Coastal standings, but the Tar Heels have just three conference games remaining. Only one, against Duke, takes place on the road. Larry Fedora’s team gets a bye next week before opening November at home against Georgia Tech. After the Duke game, the season concludes with a paycheck game against FCS The Citadel before the Black Friday showdown with NC State. If the Hokies manage to slip, UNC is right there to swoop in and represent the ACC Coastal for a second straight season.
