9.  Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss

Total Annual Salary: $4,703,500

Hugh Freeze is the first college football coach to represent the $4 million club known as the SEC West. After a one year stint with Arkansas State, Ole Miss went back to the former Rebel assistant as head coach in 2012. The gamble certainly paid off.

Freeze took a marginally talented Rebel team bowling and won seven games in 2012. The Rebels then added one win to their win total each year through 2015. After leading Ole Miss to consecutive New Year’s Six Bowls, it only makes sense that Hugh Freeze is compensated so well.

If Freeze wants to remain there, though, things will have to change soon. After beginning the season as a fringe top 10 team, Ole Miss is sitting at 3-4 with games against Auburn, Texas A&M and Mississippi State remaining. When coaches are compensated like Freeze, expectations are great. All one has to do is ask Les Miles or Mark Richt.
