College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 9
By Zach Bigalke
Western Michigan is one of just nine undefeated teams remaining in the country. They are now two-thirds of the way through a perfect regular season as they take their first break of the season. As long as they keep winning they will remain in the Top 25 as well as in the hunt for the Group of Five’s automatic bid into the Cotton Bowl. Like Boise State, the only other unbeaten mid-major left, WMU has knocked off two Power Five teams in the course of arriving at 8-0.
To reach the school’s first MAC championship game since 2000, P.J. Fleck’s team will need to win out against a November schedule in which they will be favored in every contest. They open the month with road games at Ball State and Kent State, then return home to face Buffalo. The only game that might provide any real test is the regular-season finale against Toledo. The Thanksgiving weekend showdown in Kalamazoo will be for the MAC West title if both teams win out.
