Donnel Pumphrey is threatening not just school or conference record books but the national marks for career rushing, and as a result the Aztecs are the new favorite in the Mountain West. San Diego State knocked off Utah State on the road in a weekday showdown, holding the Aggies to just 252 yards of offense in the blowout. At this point SDSU could essentially have their division title locked up as early as next weekend.
Rocky Long’s team hosts Hawaii, the one team that is only two games behind the Aztecs in the MWC West, next Saturday. If the Aztecs win against the Rainbow Warriors on Saturday, they will have a three-game lead in the division with three games to go. Then, if they take down Nevada in Reno on November 12, SDSU will have tiebreakers over every other team in the division. They close out the year with their own tough trip to Laramie before ending the regular season at home against Colorado State.
