The Midshipmen still control their fate in the AAC West, but they are cutting things a lot closer after falling at South Florida last week. Navy has taken to the pass a lot more this season, with Will Worth throwing for 299 yards and a touchdown, and the Middies also ran for over 300 yards against the Bulls. But they allow three different USF backs (including quarterback Quinton Flowers) to rush for over 100 yards as they suffered their first conference loss of the season on the road in Tampa.
Navy heads to Jacksonville, Florida next weekend for a rare neutral-site game against rival Notre Dame. They return to conference play with a high-stakes showdown with Tulsa looms on November 12 in Annapolis. The winner will be the only team left standing with only one AAC loss in the West, and if Navy wins they will hold tiebreakers over everyone except SMU. After a makeup game at East Carolina that was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew, Ken Niumatalolo’s crew plays the Mustangs on Thanksgiving weekend.
