College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 10
By Zach Bigalke
The Sooners got their trap game out of the way early in Week 10, racking up a convincing 10-point win at Iowa State on Thursday night. Oklahoma needed less than three minutes to score seven on its opening drive, and they never fell behind the rest of the game. The Sooner defense held the Cyclones under 300 total yards of offense, as the hosts spent just 23 minutes with the ball. Playing without the injured Samaje Perine and the suspended Joe Mixon in the backfield, quarterback Baker Mayfield led the way with 328 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Last week the CFP committee had the Sooners two spots lower than they were in the AP Top 25, and they will likely remain a spot or two higher in the media poll this week. Given their position alone atop the Big 12 standings, Oklahoma is on pace to play in the Sugar Bowl this season. Considering they made the playoff last year after entering the CFP rankings at #15, though, playing for the national title is not out of the realm of possibility for Bob Stoops’ team.
