The North Carolina State Wolfpack outplayed the Florida State Seminoles for much of the game but it didn’t show up in the end result, which was a loss. The Wolfpack remain idle at 11 in this week’s power rankings. They have lost four straight games.

The Wolfpack outgained the Seminoles in total yards of offense 469-393, had more first downs (31-20), but it was another head scratcher that ended in defeat for head coach Dave Doeren.

The defense held the Seminoles and running back Dalvin Cook to 63 rushing yards as a team. For his part, Cook rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown. But it ended Cook’s streak of five straight games with at least 100 rushing yards.

Wolfpack running back Matt Dayes ran the ball 23 times for 104 rushing yards but did not score a touchdown. It is Dayes’ third straight game without a rushing touchdown.

NC State is 1-4 in ACC play this season.

The Wolfpack face the Syracuse Orange at a crucial point in the season. With Miami and North Carolina left on the schedule, they’ll need a road victory to keep their bowl hopes alive. NC State has made a bowl game the past two seasons.
