Ole Miss Rebels

Ole Miss 37-27

The story here could easily be the same as so many before this season for Ole Miss. Chad Kelly and the offense scored plenty of points, but the defense didn’t hold up their end of the deal. It took the highest scoring quarter all season for the Ole Miss offense (28 points in the 2nd quarter) for the Rebels to overcome an early 21-10 deficit.

Yes Ole Miss scored, but failed to represent SEC football well. A 10-point victory over a 4-4 Georgia Southern team isn’t going to impress anyone. None of that will be the takeaway, however. Chad Kelly leaving the game with a knee injury and no returning, though, will be the story of the game.

Impact Moving Forward

-Depends on the Kelly injury

If Chad Kelly — who did not appear at the post-game press conference — is seriously injured, bowl eligibility is in serious doubt. That certainly isn’t how fans and experts expected this season to play out for Ole Miss.

Without Kelly, though, the final three games of Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State look much more daunting. Before the season began, this portion of the schedule was supposed to be a breeze. We know all about Texas A&M, but Vandy and Mississippi State look much more rejuvenated now. It’ll be an interesting watch in Oxford, Mississippi.
