Group of Five: Week 10 Access Bowl Power Rankings
By Zach Bigalke
The Troy backfield ground out 198 combined rushing yards and three touchdowns to pace last weekend’s victory against UMass, led by Jordan Chunn’s 83 yards and a score. Brandon Silvers and Andrew Ford traded touchdown passes, with Silvers finishing the game with 245 yards and three scores. Most significantly, though, Troy’s defense locked down on the Minutemen’s rushing attack, holding them to 44 yards on 28 carries — less than half their season average for both yards per game and yards per rushing play.
The Trojans continue to surprise as they surge toward the team’s first Sun Belt crown since 2010. Troy has no statement win over a Power Five team, but they did manage to stay within a touchdown on the road against second-ranked Clemson. If they can win their next two games at home against Appalachian State and Arkansas State, Troy will seal up an outright Sun Belt title. While the league doesn’t get the same recognition as other Group of Five conferences, an 11-1 undisputed champion whose only loss came to Clemson might look awfully good to the College Football Playoff committee.
