Group of Five: Week 10 Access Bowl Power Rankings
By Zach Bigalke
Boise State is one of two teams ranked in the College Football Playoff committee’s top 25 list this week, but they need help just to play for the Mountain West championship and stay in the running for a New Year’s Six bid to a bowl game that isn’t the Fiesta. The Group of Five powerhouse took care of business on Friday night against San Jose State, as both Jeremy McNichols (158 yards, 2 TDs) and Alexander Mattison (100 yards, 1 TD) hit triple digits in rushing and Brett Rypien threw for 216 yards and three scores.
Boise State can still point to its two wins over Washington State and Oregon State as two of the best statement wins of the season by a Group of Five team. But the loss to Wyoming means that the Broncos need Wyoming to lose twice in their last three games to claim the MWC Mountain this season. They should win out against Hawaii, UNLV, and Air Force, but that might not be enough for Bryan Harsin’s team to return to a major bowl game.
