Group of Five: Week 11 Access Bowl Power Rankings
By Zach Bigalke
Navy welcomed Tulsa to Annapolis last weekend in what amounted to an elimination game in the AAC West. Both teams entered the contest with only one loss in conference play, and they ended up playing a thriller on Saturday. Will Worth threw for 111 yards on 6-of-8 passing, ran for another 122 yards as the leader of the option offense, and scored four total touchdowns in the victory. Though the Navy defense allowed 576 yards to Tulsa, a Dane Evans interception on the first drive of the second half proved costly in the end.
Now Navy needs to win just one of its final two conference games on the road in order to lock up the AAC West title. Ken Niumatalolo’s team plays at East Carolina this Saturday before concluding AAC play at SMU on Thanksgiving weekend. As long as they don’t collapse over the next fortnight, the Midshipmen will be representing the West. If they do win the AAC, the College Football Playoff committee might have to delay its Access Bowl selection until after the Army-Navy game.
