Cam Newton had a circuitous route to the Heisman, transferring from Florida to Blinn Junior College before arriving in Auburn for one season in 2010. The dual-threat quarterback joined Tim Tebow as the only Heisman-winning quarterbacks to pass for 20 or more touchdowns and rush for 20 or more as well. In racking up 49 total touchdowns and over 4000 yards from scrimmage, Newton led the Tigers to a perfect 14-0 record, the SEC title, and a win over Oregon in the BCS national championship.

In the Heisman voting, Newton earned 729 of a possible 926 first-place votes, and finished with more than twice as many points in the final vote as runner-up Andrew Luck of Stanford. The redshirt junior quarterback finished atop the voting in all six regions across the country, including the far west where Luck played his college ball. In the process he earned Auburn’s third Heisman Trophy and the school’s first in 25 years.
