College Football Week 13: 5 bold predictions
By Jordan Luth
4. Washington State wins the Apple Cup
There are some great names for some of the rivalry games that are played on the final week of the season. Oregon and Oregon State play in the “Civil War”. The Iron Bowl with Alabama and Auburn. Michigan and Ohio State play in just simply, “the game.” Yet the Apple cup has always been a favorite of mine and this year the stakes in this game are the biggest that they have been in a long time.
Both Washington and Washington State can still make the Pac 12 championship. All they have to do is win this game. If that wasn’t big enough, a CFP spot may be on the line for Washington as well. Knowing that either Michigan or Ohio State must lose, that opens the door for No. 5 Washington to be that fourth team. All they have to do is win the Apple Cup. Something that I don’t think they will do.
This will be the toughest game that either team will play all year, and in this case, I am giving the edge to the team with home field advantage, which is Washington State. The Cougars will love the chance they have in front of them. A chance to win the Pac 12 North and beat their biggest rival, in front of the home crowd. Mix that with all the pressure that will be on Washington to carry the Pac 12 into the CFP and I believe that an upset will occur. Washington State takes the Apple Cup.
