College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
Western Michigan completed a perfect regular season with a 20-point thrashing of rival Toledo on Black Friday. The de facto MAC West title game was never in doubt, as the Broncos returned a pick-six on the opening play of the game to take a lead they would never relinquish. Jamauri Bogan rushed for 198 yards and a touchdown, Jarvion Franklin added another two short rushing scores, and Zach Terrell completed 19 of his 25 passing attempts for 196 yards and three TDs. Though the WMU defense gave up 200 rushing yards to Kareem Hunt, they also forced three turnovers in the win.
Now P.J. Fleck’s team heads to Detroit next weekend to square off against 8-4 Ohio in the MAC championship game. As heavy favorites, the Broncos will want to assert their dominance right away against the Bobcats. On a day when Boise State fell out of its conference race and Houston sustained another loss to send Tom Herman packing, Western Michigan held serve and will undoubtedly be the top Group of Five team not just in the AP Top 25 but also the College Football Playoff rankings this week. Win the MAC and they’ll be in the Cotton Bowl.
