College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
In the game of the season in the Big Ten, Michigan held a 17-7 lead in the third quarter against rival Ohio State. Then the Buckeyes chipped away at the lead, nabbing a second Wilton Speight interception to pull within three and then scoring a field goal with one second remaining in regulation. Michigan threatened to return the ensuing kickoff for the win, but ultimately the Wolverines fell in the first overtime game in the rivalry’s long history.
The loss in Columbus marks the fifth straight defeat to the Buckeyes and 12 of the past 13 that Michigan have dropped to their rivals. Now the Wolverines miss out not just on the Big Ten East title but also are probably out of the running at this point for the College Football Playoff after losing two of its past three to end the regular season. They will remain in the top ten of the AP Top 25 and CFP rankings, though, and with 10 wins already on their record they have probably done enough to ensure an invitation to one of the New Year’s Six bowl games.
