The Wolverines coughed up a 10-point lead in the second half of their rivalry game against Ohio State, ultimately losing by three in double overtime. That loss kept the Wolverines from playing for the Big Ten title this weekend. Despite knocking off both teams that played in the conference championship, as well as Pac-12 South champ Colorado, the Wolverines find themselves in a precarious position in the College Football Playoff standings.

Jim Harbaugh’s team could still ostensibly be launched into the semifinal bracket by the committee, though Washington’s emphatic win on Friday made it tougher to justify leapfrogging the Huskies. With the Big Ten champion most likely to play in the Rose Bowl, that leaves the door open for Michigan to travel to either the Orange Bowl or Cotton Bowl.
