The Crimson Tide were probably locked into the College Football Playoff regardless of what happened against Florida in the SEC championship game. But Nick Saban’s squad left nothing to chance, easing into their showdown with the Gators before pulling away for a runaway victory in the second half of the title game. As a result Alabama joined Western Michigan as a 13-0 team, and the Tide are track to become just the second undefeated national champion in Saban’s tenure in Tuscaloosa.

Nobody is going to unseat Alabama from its position atop the College Football Playoff rankings, and they have been a wire-to-wire leader in the AP Top 25 as well. For the third straight year since the move from the BCS to the plus-one bracket, the Tide will be in the hunt for the national title. As the top seed they are most likely going to be matched up against Pac-12 champion Washington, returning to the Georgia Dome four weeks after their SEC championship victory in the same venue.
