After breaking his collarbone against UTSA in early November, Brent Stockstill was expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season. But after being cleared by Middle Tennessee’s medical staff, he returned to play in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve. While the Blue Raiders lost to Hawaii 52-35, Stockstill put in one of the finest passing performances of the 2016-2017 bowl season in the losing effort.

Stockstill completed 30 of his 51 attempts for 432 yards and four scores. Unfortunately he also tossed two interceptions to the Rainbow Warriors, one of which was returned 68 yards by Trayvon Henderson for a touchdown the other way. Even with the gaffes, though, Stockstill had one of the most prolific games of the postseason. No throw was better than his first touchdown, a 51-yard strike to put the Blue Raiders up 14-0 early in the first quarter.

His other touchdown passes went for 3, 10, and 13 yards as he had a hand in the bulk of Middle Tennessee’s points. But by the time Stockstill threw his second scoring strike of the game, he had also tossed his two picks and also lost a fumble after getting sacked. Though other quarterbacks had more efficient passing games, Stockstill had one of the most prolific in terms of gashing Hawaii’s secondary — even if he did also hand the Rainbow Warriors a few gifts on their way to victory.
