Lane Kiffin did a solid job on his first National Signing Day as the new head coach at Florida Atlantic. Leaving Alabama early might have paid off in terms of recruiting as Kiffin embarks on his third college gig. The Owls signed 15 three-star recruits out of a total of 24 commits. After going 3-9 last season, this infusion of new talent should help bolster the team’s fortunes on the field relatively quickly in Boca Raton.

That list of 24 players includes nine junior-college transfers. Kiffin landed the second-rated junior college quarterback in the country, De’Andre Johnson. The quarterback started his college career at Florida State in January 2015, but was dismissed six months later by Jimbo Fisher after facing misdemeanor battery charges. After a stint at East Mississippi Community College, he gets a second shot at FBS football in Conference USA. The team also signed two of the nation’s top 15 junior-college defensive ends along with top-50 high school safety Ahman Ross.
