SEC Football: Top 10 players to watch this spring
Auburn Tigers running back Kamryn Pettway took the SEC by storm last season with his running ability. He ran for 1,224 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in 2016 after appearing in just two games in 2015.
Pettway was fifth in rushing yards in the SEC and fourth in rushing attempts with 209. He ran for over 100 rushing yards in seven of the nine games he appeared in last year. He had 30 carries for 236 rushing yards and a touchdown against Ole Miss back on October 29 for a 40-29 victory. Pettway averaged 7.9 rushing yards per carry in the game.
For a team that averaged an SEC-best 271.3 rushing yards per game last season, Auburn and Pettway have shown they’re a match made in heaven. With the emergence of Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham at quarterback, Pettway’s role could certainly increase in 2017. Pettway shared a majority of the carries with running back Kerryon Johnson as well. With such high expectations for the Tigers offense in 2017, look for Pettway to be key in any success Auburn might have.
