Wide Receiver

Starting receivers: Traveon Samuel, Jaylen Smith, Seth Dawkins
Backups: Emonee Spence, Dez Fitzpatrick, Devante Peete

The Louisville Cardinals will need to replace James Quick and Jamari Staples at wide receiver. They still have experienced receiver Traveon Samuel and Jaylen Smith. Add Seth Dawkins to the mix and quarterback Lamar Jackson could see a strong season from his receiving corp.

More from Louisville Cardinals

Smith is the team’s top returning target after catching 27 passes for 599 receiving ysards and six touchdowns. Samuel caught 18 passes for 230 receiving yards and a touchdown. Dawkins caught 11 passes for 191 receiving yards and a touchdown.

One thing that’s hard to ignore is the size the Cardinals have at the wide receiver position. Smith is 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, Dawkins is 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds. Although Samuel isn’t very tall, he serves as the “speedy receiver” amongst the group at 5-foot-7 and 170 pounds.

As reserves, Devante Peete, Emonee Spence and Dez Fitzpatrick could see time on the field as well. Peete is the only reserve with on-field experience from last season. He had four catches for 70 receiving yards in 2016. Spence didn’t record any statistics. Fitzpatrick is coming off a redshirt season.
