If Derrius Guice had been the full-time starter last season with the LSU Tigers, he might have ended up being a Heisman finalist. Because former LSU running back Leonard Fournette sat out most of the 2016 campaign, the entire nation got to see what Guice can do. And second-year head coach Ed Orgeron is sure to take full advantage of that in 2017.

Matt Canada needs to open up the offense more than Cam Cameron did and a lot lies on the shoulders of quarterback Danny Etling. Yet, the bulk of the offense will still rely on Guice’s overall production, and that’s the way it should be.

Guice is one of the two clear cut best running backs in the country and all he needs is to slightly progress his stat line from 2016. On 183 attempts, Guice rushed for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns. He averaged 7.6 yards per carry last season.

It seems like destiny to see Guice as at least a Heisman finalist sometime during his college career. He’s just too talented and on too good of a team to not reach his full potential. Guice is one of the hardest players in the country to take down and he can break a play wide open any time he is handed the ball.
