Defensive Line

Starting tackles: Keyshon Camp, Amir Watts
Backups: Mike Herndon, Shane Roy

The Pittsburgh Panthers defensive tackle position returns zero starters in 2017. They’ll need to improve quickly after projected starter Jeremiah Taleni was kicked off the football team. Amir Watts returns after appearing in seven games as a true freshman. Keyshon Camp was a redshirt player in 2016.

Mike Herndon climbs up the depth chart with the loss of Taleni. He made six appearances at the reserve nose tackle position in 2016 after moving from the offensive line. Shane Roy has made 21 appearances since 2014, earning his first letter last season as a reserve defensive tackle.

Starting ends: Allen Edwards, Dewayne Hendrix
Backups: Rori Blair, James Folston Jr.

The starting defensive end position saw a bit of a shuffle with Allen Edwards listed ahead of Rori Blair, who was the starter in 2016. Blair looks to still be in the doghouse after being left home for the New Era Pinstripe Bowl last season.

Dewayne Hendrix, a transfer from the Tennessee Volunteers, will be looked upon to fill the void left by Ejuan Price (23.0 TFL, 13.0 sacks). Hendrix missed all of last season after sustaining a season-ending foot injury in the third of play of the team’s 2016 season opener.

Blair, a true senior, is listed at one backup defensive end position. He has 20 total starts entering the 2017 season. The other backup, James Folston Jr., has appeared in 12 games as a reserve defensive end.
