Defensive Backs

Starting cornerbacks: Myles Hartsfield, Jaylon Jones (Ken Webster?)
Backups: Jaylen Julius, Cam Ordway, Javien Hamilton

Much like linebackers, I nor does anyone, have any clue how the defensive backfield will end up for Ole Miss. Injuries caused the defensive secondary to be young last year and it caused Ole Miss to be bad when it came to pass defense. Young players are now experienced however. Myles Hartsfield should be a steady reliable corner. Same with Jaylon Jones. The wildcard is whether Ken Webster can come back from that devastating knee injury he suffered against FSU. Should Webster come back, he can provide veteran experience and his playmaking skills.

Coach McGriff is an excellent secondary coach, he turned around an inexperienced Ole Miss secondary in 2012. If anyone can get this players going in the right direction, it is him.

Starting safties: Zedrick Woods, Deontay Anderson
Backups: C.J. Hampton, C.J. Moore

While corner could be an issue, the safety position isn’t exactly the same story. Both Woods and Anderson were thrown in the fire last season and both showed improvement over the course of the season. Anderson was highly rated coming into Ole Miss and has all the talent in the world.  Zedrick Woods wasn’t as highly touted but quickly made a mark on the team.

C.J. Hampton and C.J. Moore are both very experienced players and they can easily make an impact on defense if they were to start. Hampton was highly rated coming out of high school with offers from Alabama and most other big time programs. He seemed to have come on more last year, we’ll see how it transitions into this year.
