College Football: Top 50 players for 2017
Here is the list of Pac-12 quarterbacks that had more touchdown passes in 2016 than Luke Falk:
- Jake Browning, Washington
That’s it. That’s the whole list. Falk was a touchdown machine last year. He threw for four or more touchdowns in six of the Cougars’ 13 games. During that time he only had two games with multiple interceptions: at Stanford and at home against Browning’s Washington Huskies.
Although he attempted more passes than any other player in college football, Falk wasn’t a product of stat-stuffing. He was the second most accurate quarterback in the country (to Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield) with an unheard of 70.0 completion percentage. If 60 percent is good and 65 is excellent, 70 percent might have to be considered “near perfect”.
Falk throws touchdowns, doesn’t throw interceptions and is midway through rewriting every passing record in Washington State history. His sophomore and junior seasons rank second and third all time in Wazzou history in terms of total passing yardage. He’s overtaken the likes of Drew Bledsoe and Ryan Leaf, and he’s got one more year to play.
The quarterback play in the Pac-12 is steallar. Watching Falk duel with Sam Darnold in Week 5 and Browning in the Apple Cup are tantalizing matchups for college football fans across the country. Falk has a decent chance to out gun both of those two guys which are currently whispered to be some of the top picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.
