Defensive Backs

Starting safeties: Evan Tyler, Cameron Hartsfield
Backups: DeAndre Pierce, Kekoa Nawahine

Among the safeties on the depth chart, Cameron Hartsfield has the most experience. The redshirt senior has appeared in 39 games in his career, including nine starts at safety last season. Hartsfield will slot in at one safety position for Boise State, with Kekoa Nawahine most likely serving as his backup.

At the other safety position, Evan Tyler was the main starter until injury ended his season prematurely. If Tyler is healthy this season, he could pick up where he left off in his redshirt freshman year. DeAndre Pierce, officially listed as a cornerback, has been practicing more at safety and could potentially hook the starting spot ahead of Tyler.

Starting cornerbacks: Tyler Horton, Michael Young
Backups: Reid Harrison-Ducros, Robert Lewis

With the departure of Jonathan Moxey, there is a vacancy on the two deep at cornerback. Tyler Horton has one side locked down after starting all 13 games last year as a sophomore. But the other side has plenty of question marks.

Harsin and defensive coordinator Andy Avalos could take several approaches. One potential starter is junior-college transfer Michael Young. Another avenue would be to get youngsters like redshirt freshman Robert Lewis or sophomore Reid Harrison-Ducros some more experience. Either way, teams will likely look their way more often in hopes of taking advantage of inexperience.
