College Football: Buy or sell top 25 teams as National Title contenders

Everything is in place for the Auburn Tigers to return to the National Championship for the first time since 2013 with Nick Marshall. Something just feels different with Baylor transfer quarterback Jarrett Stidham taking things over with the Auburn offense. He’s a different talent than the last few quarterbacks that Gul Malzahn had to work with.

If Stidham does not work out then Auburn is definitely in trouble. However, Stidham was tremendous in limited action with Baylor back in 2015 when he threw 13 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

Junior cornerback Carlton Davis and senior safety Tray Matthews lead one of the best secondaries in the country. Junior defensive lineman Dontavious Russell and Andrew Williams have the bulk of the responsibility of the defensive line on their shoulders.

There’s an overall lack of talent at receiver for Auburn, but that should be more than made up by the running back duo of Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson. Something special is brewing at Auburn and the Alabama Crimson Tide need to watch out.

Verdict: Buy
