The one thing cornerback Jack Jones does not lack is confidence. Per the LA Times, Jones arrived on campus in 2016 and declared he would win the Heisman Trophy. Obviously he didn’t, but he returned this year stating the same thing. If that overconfidence is what fuels him, then I’m sure the coaches and fans won’t mind if the results show on the field.

Jones played in all 13 games last season, as a reserve cornerback but mostly on special teams. The former five-star recruit out of Long Beach had a year of playing behind and learning from one of the best in cornerback Adoree Jackson, who now will be playing on Sundays. It’s Jones’ turn now to be a starting cornerback opposite Iman Marshall, already a star in his own right.

If Jones takes everything he learned from Jackson and combines it with his super athletic ability, him and Marshall could be one of the best cornerback tandems in all of college football. Maybe not the Heisman, but high praise and other awards could be coming Jones way this fall.
