No. 2 – He’s got help

Even if Rosen plays lights out all season, he will still need some help. When have you ever seen a QB singlehandedly carry the team on his back to a championship? You’ve never seen it. It’s never happened. The defense has to show up  and make plays to save the day at least one or two major times per season. The good news is Rosen doesn’t have to do all the heavy lifting for the Bruins.

UCLA’s defense has been one of the better defenses in the Pac-12 for the last couple seasons. Rosen will continue to get some help from the guys on the other side of the ball. In 2016, the Bruins defense only allowed 210 passing yards per game. Doing that in the Pac-12 is impressive. In addition to being great against the pass, the defense was third in the Pac-12 in opponent third down percentage, only allowing a first down 34.7 perce of the time.

The Bruins offense was absolutely abysmal last season. Their offense was stagnant and consistently turned the ball over after Rosen went down. This year, the Bruins defense led by coordinator Tom Bradley will be even better.
