Quarterback

Starting quarterback: Josh Rosen
Backup: Devon Modster

After a 2016 season in which his injury troubles pretty much ended any hope for UCLA to contend in the Pac-12, it’s clear that Rosen is the key to the Bruins’ hopes of getting back to a bowl — and more — in 2017.

Rosen’s been stellar when he’s at full strength, but injuries, a leaky offensive line, and virtually no help from the running game have hamstrung him in his two years in Los Angeles.

If the Bruins manage to keep their stud quarterback upright, he’s one of the best in the nation, and could propel UCLA back to the national spotlight. It’ll almost certainly be his last college season, and Jim Mora will be determined to make it one to remember. His job might depend on it.

Mora and company will be hoping that Rosen is able to take every snap in 2017, but that’s not a guarantee. The Bruins do have two promising redshirt freshmen waiting in the wings in Devon Modster and Matt Lynch, but would certainly prefer to use neither in the upcoming season. Either way, it’ll be a fascinating battle for the starting job between the two once Rosen departs for the NFL.
