Miami Hurricanes

2006 impact player: Orien Harris, DT #92, 94 overall
Today: RB Mark Walton, LB Shaquille Quarterman

Wow. The ‘Canes were pretty bad in 2006 if Harris was the impact player. That’s something else. I guess he did have 11 TFL’s in 2005 but he and Devin Hester were two of the impacts on another average Miami team.

Miami’s offense will need to rely on a running game to get whatever new head coach Mark Richt decides on comfortable early in the season. Mark Walton, who made many preseason All-ACC first-team lists will be the workhorse for the Hurricanes. He ran for 1,100-plus yards and 14 TD’s in 2016 behind a bad O-line.

On defense, Miami has a lot of potential impact players but none quite as imposing as the big hitter, Shaq Quarterman. He totaled 84 tackles with 10 TFL and 3.5 sacks as a middle linebacker. Miami will need a tough defense while the offense gets its act together.
