Michigan Football: 5 bold predictions for 2017 season
2. Brandon Peters becomes the starter in Week 2
Wilton Speight played well through most of the 2016 regular season. He notched 19 total touchdowns while tossing only seven interceptions. The way Speight finished the season is not encouraging.
Speight threw more interceptions than touchdowns in the final three games of the year. Michigan lost those three games. One of those was an embarrassing defeat against Iowa. Losing to teams like Iowa is not acceptable for Harbaugh.
True freshman Brandon Peters is favored to be Speight’s backup. With Speight on a short leash, Peters could get thrown into the fire fast. Harbaugh likely will keep his starter in for the full game against Florida. If Speight does not get it done in Week 1, he could sit on the bench the following week.
Peters is likely the next man up. John O’Korn attemped 34 passes with Michigan last season. Both quarterbacks could get a chance to show what they can do. Peters has the brighter future as a true freshman compared to fifth year senior O’Korn.
