College Football: 10 biggest storylines heading into 2017
7. Is 2017 Bill Snyder’s final season in Manhattan?
We saw it with Steve Spurrier and Frank Beamer in 2015 and just this past June we saw Bob Stoops leave his post at Oklahoma, now that leaves the establishment of tenured head coaches to just a few people. Bill Snyder is the senior member of a group that features among the likes of Nick Saban and Urban Meyer.
Snyder, who will turn 78 during this season has returned after taking a brief absence to take care of some health issues during the spring. That along with his age has only elevated those rumors. Ever since Kansas State’s Snyder 2.0 revival, rumors of the coaches exit have gone one but season after season he returns.
The 2017 Kanas State team is one of the best returning teams (on paper) that Snyder has had is about three to four seasons. It would be a much fitting end to see the old mariner of the Kansas State football program to be carried off the field after a bowl victory.
Far too often you see coaches who are around for longer than they ought to be and you want that iconic exit to happen. If Snyder’s team can live up to it’s potential then we may be seeing that image come New Year’s Day 2018 possibly.
