Unlike Elijah Molden, Byron Murphy is not a true freshman. He was the highest-rated recruit in Washington’s 2016 recruiting class. Murphy took a redshirt his first season. If he can perform well early in the season, he should lock down a starting spot for the rest of the year.

Murphy has all the talent needed to effectively take the spot Sidney Jones left open. Learning from potential All-American safety Taylor Rapp will be great for Murphy. The speed, range, and ball skills that Murphy possesses makes him unique.

Washington expects a good number of turnovers forced from their defensive backs. Murphy has the potential to grab at least three interceptions this year. A quick start to the season for Murphy would catch some weaker non-conference opponents like Rutgers and Fresno State off guard.

Murphy is a name to watch to not only make an impact but also be a potential star for the Huskies.
