Boise State Football: Game-by-game predictions for 2017
By Zach Bigalke
The divisional format of the Mountain West means that Boise State and San Diego State are not always on one another’s schedules. It has been three years since the schools last met on the football field. Then again, they have only met four times overall in their history, all since Boise State transitioned from the WAC to the Mountain West in 2011.

The all-time series is locked up at two games apiece. Boise State won the last contest against the Aztecs, prevailing 38-29 at home in their 2014 run to the Fiesta Bowl.
After that season, though, SDSU emerged as the top team in the Mountain West. The back-to-back defending conference champions will try to remain relevant after the graduation of record-breaking running back Donnel Pumphrey.
The MWC West is wide open, though, and Rocky Long’s team is as capable of winning the league crown as any other this season. The showdown in San Diego could ultimately even be foreshadowing for an eventual rematch in December for the conference crown.
Final: Boise State 36, San Diego State 32 (5-1, 2-0 MWC)
Rocky Long has Rashaad Penny to ease the loss of Pumphrey in the backfield for San Diego State. Penny is a dynamic runner and receiver who could put up several touchdowns against the Broncos. Look for Bryan Harsin’s team to take the lead in the all-time series with a tense, tight win that puts Boise State to 5-1 at the midway point of their regular season.
