Boise State Football: Game-by-game predictions for 2017
By Zach Bigalke
Utah State has been a thorn in the Broncos’ side in many recent years. Boise State secured a relatively straightforward 21-10 result over the Aggies last season at home. Two years ago during the 2015 campaign, though, a 6-7 Utah State team took down the Broncos 52-26 in Logan. That loss proved fatal to Boise’s hopes of returning to a New Year’s Six game after their 2014 Fiesta Bowl victory.
Even then, Boise State has won 13 of the 16 games between the two schools. Utah State is coming off a disappointing campaign where they finished in the cellar of the MWC Mountain, and will be rebuilding. Only nine of the 22 starters from last season’s team return to Logan this year. Matt Wells and his staff have a long year ahead of them.
By the time they face Boise State, USU will have already faced Wisconsin and Wake Forest on the road and BYU at home. A bowl game might already be out of reach by this point of the season.
Final: Boise State 34, Utah State 17 (7-1, 4-0 MWC)
After a tough October to this point, Boise State will have a relatively easy time dealing with the Aggies. Senior quarterback Kent Myers will lead Utah State on a few scoring drives, but the home crowd at Maverik Stadium will witness yet another loss. This game could be the tipping point on Matt Wells’ time at his alma mater.
