Notre Dame Football: 5 reasons why Brandon Wimbush will be better than DeShone Kizer
3. Returning weapons on offense
Wimbush is fortunate enough to have a lot of returning pieces in 2017, specifically at perhaps is most important positions: the offensive line. Four out of the five starting projected starting offensive lineman for the Irish will be seniors, which will be pivotal for Wimbush’s confidence and comfort level under center.
Notre Dame’s offense also returns a solid running game and a very talented receiving core, including wide out Equanimeous St. Brown, whom Wimbush has already established a great relationship with, according to the Indy Star.
Entering a crowded group of receivers, there was no telling sign of who was going to come out as the top receivers, but St. Brown and Wimbush’s connection has made it easy, as the two have been thriving with each other in practice.

“Sometimes I can tell he’s gonna throw it to me,” St. Brown said after Notre Dame’s ‘New and Gold’ scrimmage. “I look at him, he’s looking at me, and gives me those eyes like he’s throwing to me.”
As someone who has thrown just five passes in his career, it is imperative his offense, especially the receivers trust him back there — and vise versa. Being a dual threat at the quarterback spot, Wimbush also has the ability to give a pick-me-up to either aspect of the offense as he will be able to open up the passing game with his legs and running game with his arm.
St. Brown returns as the Irish’s top receiver as he hauled in nine touchdowns and 961 yards in 2016. Notre Dame will also return their top rusher in the backfield in Josh Adams. In 2016, Adams rushed for 933 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore.
The return of their top offensive threats, paired with a sturdy and experienced offensive line will help get Wimbush and the offense off and running in the right direction.
