No. 41: Talking Heads – Burning Down the House

Year Released: 1983
Billboard Hot 100 Chart Peak: 9

If you’re over the age of 30 (and possibly even younger) you probably have the image of the Alpha Beta house in Revenge of the Nerds going up in flames when you hear this song. Forever associated with college hijinks thanks to that ’80s classic, this one is a must-have on the playlist.

Talking Heads may very well be one of the the best American bands ever, with their ability to mix pop flavors, a little fusion jazz, some funk from time to time and incredible guitar playing from the likes of Jerry Harrison.

Burning Down the House is an example of a hit from a band who really didn’t care about making hits, but more about making music.

Stair diving, anyone?
