College Football: 3 quarterbacks making biggest statement in Week 1
Hawaii’s Dru Brown completely outplayed UMass’s junior quarterback Andrew Ford. Brown totaled 391 passing yards and three touchdowns. Ford managed less than 300 passing yards and two touchdowns with one interception.
One of the best performances, outside of the quarterback position, was Hawaii wide receiver John Ursua who caught 12 passes for 272 yards and one touchdown. Ursua notched less than 700 total receiving yards in 2016 and could easily eclipse that mark in 2017.
Brown did not get much help from the run game. Starting running back Diocemy Saint Juste averaged just 3.4 yards per carry on 23 attempts. Brown picked up the pace on the ground and rushed for one touchdown himself.
Hawaii takes on the Western Carolina Catamounts out of the FCS in their next game. Brown can keep trending in the right direction with a great performance against Western Carolina. His 391 yards and four total touchdowns was actually the most impressive stat line of any quarterback on Saturday.
