The 19th ranked USF football team opened the season against the San Jose State Spartans. Here are three things we learned about the Bulls on Saturday.

The South Florida Bulls opened the season ranked 19th in the Preseason AP Poll and a 21.5-point favorite against the San Jose State Spartans.

Charlie Strong enters with high expectations in his first season as head coach. He didn’t stay jobless long after being dismissed as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns at the end of last season.

Surprisingly, it was the Spartans who got on the board first. They went up 3-0 with 11:22 left in the first quarter.  The South Florida Bulls struggled in their first two series going three plays and out and giving San Jose State a 10-point cushion before the opening quarter was even halfway over.

South Florida would go on to score 28 straight points to go up 28-16 at the half. Quinton Flowers was 5-for-9 for 114 yards and two touchdowns through the air in the first half. The Bulls got the victory in the end and taught us fans a few things as well.
