The Stanford Cardinal started off their 2017 season in style. They defeated the Rice Owls by a 55-point margin in a dominating effort led by quarterback Keller Chryst and running backs Bryce Love and Cameron Scarlett.

Stanford has a tough road in front of them in the Pac-12 this year. They start off their conference slate with a matchup against the No. 4-ranked USC Trojans. Led by quarterback Sam Darnold, USC has the makings of one of the most difficult opponents, if not the toughest, that Stanford faces in 2017.

However, Stanford showed against Rice that they’re ready for whatever their schedule has to hold this year. Love looks like a Heisman contender and Chryst is exactly what their offense needs. A run to the Pac-12 Championship and possibly getting to the Playoff for the first time is not out of reach for the 14th ranked team in the country.

Head coach David Shaw could really use a big season and a berth in the Playoff. He finally has the team to do it with this Stanford squad in 2017. If nothing else, they’ll win at least 11 games.
