Once again, the Oklahoma Sooners are the favorite to walk away with the Big 12 championship. The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Kansas State Wildcats will challenge but senior quarterback Baker Mayfield has a great chance to win his third straight conference title.

Not only does Mayfield give OU a chance to compete for the conference championship, he’ll have a great shot at winning the Heisman Trophy. To do that, he would need to take the Sooners to the College Football Playoff for the second time in three years.

Oklahoma loses key players like running backs Joe Mikron and Samaje Perine and wide receiver Dede Westbrook. The receiving corps should be just fine but the stable of running backs will need some younger guys like Rodney Anderson and Abdul Adams to step up.

The toughest test for OU this year lies in Columbus when they hit the road to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes dominated OU last year on their way to a 45-24 victory. First-year head coach Lincoln Riley has his hands full with early-season tests.
