3. Nick Saban’s Weakness

Alabama fans please do not kill me on Twitter, but even your head coach Nick Saban has his weaknesses. Every Bama fans know this weakness. Saban has historically sturggled against dual threat quarterbacks.

Let’s look back at the last five out of six games Alabama and Saban have lost, excluding just the Oklahoma Sugar Bowl loss where the Tide simply seemed not to care enough to show up.

Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers defeated Alabama in the 2013 Iron Bowl. The next season Ole Miss’ Bo Wallace captained a comeback against the 2014 Crimson Tide. In the postseason, Cardale Jones and the Ohio State Buckeyes knocked off the Tide in their first College Football Playoff game.

In the 2015 season, Chad Kelly and the Ole Miss Rebels beat the Tide again the next year. Alabama’s last game the 2017 National Championship Game, was a loss to the Clemson Tigers. Alabama lost the turnover over battle in all but two of these five games. Cam Newton and Deshaun Watson’s teams are the only two to lose the turnover battle and win out of the five. But those two quarterbacks are amazing talents.

This Florida State team has a true dual threat QB. They also have an elite defense with a pension for taking the ball away. Saban and Hurts had best be careful.

This game is more than just a season opener for Nick Saban. This game is about the best coach in college football history conquering his one hurdle. But will he be on September 2nd? Remember, Saban has only lost multiple games in a row four times in Tuscaloosa. Could this be pair number five?
