2. Alabama Crimson Tide

vs. Florida State Seminoles (Dallas), Sept. 2, 8:00 p.m. ET

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida State Seminoles face off in primetime on Saturday, reuniting former coaching buddies who are now head coaching foes in Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban. The two teams meet for the first time since 2007 when Florida State won 21-14.

For the first time since the preseason AP Poll was established, the number one team faces another team in the top three in a season opener. The Seminoles and Crimson Tide ironically meet in the same place that will host the national championship game, giving fans a possible preview of an opening and finishing act among football power houses.

While this certainly wouldn’t be that big of an upset, seeing the Crimson Tide going down early would set up the blueprint for other teams to follow. The Seminoles are 6-0 in season openers, thus far under Jimbo Fisher, 7-0 if you count FCS opponents.

It will be a battle of the stars on both sides of the ball. Jaylen Hurts will have his chance to face safety Derwin James and the Florida State Seminoles. Deondre Francois will have his hands full all game long with the tough and always physical Crimson Tide defense.

In what is the greatest season opener of all-time, the SEC or the ACC will have a potential College Football Playoff contender on its hand by the end.
