2. Miami’s defense will outscore the Bethune-Cookman offense

The Hurricanes defense began their return to dominance last year and they figure to be even better this year. Miami has tremendous depth on the defensive line, and can rotate eight lineman who are starting caliber.

Their linebackers are among the best in the nation, and were named the best in the ACC by the league’s website TheACC.com. Led by Shaq Quarterman, Michael Pinckney and Zach McCloud the Canes’ linebackers are game-changers who can wreak havoc on an inferior Wildcats team.

Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz will surely want to put Bethune-Cookman away early. The Canes should have no problem stopping anything the Wildcats throw at them, look for Miami to be aggressive with blitzes to try and force turnovers.

With an elite defense that is hungry to build off of last year’s resurgence, there may be several opportunities for the defense to cash in on mistakes.

The last time these two met was in 2015, and Miami won about as impressively as you can with a 45-0 thrashing. It was over at halftime with the Hurricanes carrying a 31-point lead into the locker room. Considering Bethune-Cookman will have a lot of trouble cashing in, it is entirely possible for the Canes’ defense to put up a score to make this scenario a reality.
