3. Head coach Jeff Brohm is ready to lead Purdue

The Purdue Boilermakers are a Big Ten team undergoing a makeover under first-year head coach Jeff Brohm. Brohm used three seasons and a 30-10 record at Western Kentucky to move up to the Power 5 coaching ranks. After winning the Conference USA title in 2016, it’s apparent he’s ready to do great things.

In his first game as the Boilermakers head coach, Brohm looks like he passed with flying colors. He kept quarterback Lamar Jackson guessing and on his heels all game long. Purdue didn’t hesitate to throw different looks Jackson’s way and force him to get rid of the ball quickly or take a hit.

The Boilermakers didn’t sack Jackson but they did force three fumbles and capitalized on every one of them. They led 14-10 at halftime and never backed down from the Cardinals.

On offense, Brohm made switches from Elijah Sindelar to David Blough at quarterback as needed to keep the offense fresh. The move proved to pay off, outside of a pick-six Blough thrown to linebacker Stacy Thomas in the third quarter.

Brohm tried to use some trickery late to catch the Louisville Cardinals off guard but it proved to be a mistake as Blough threw an interception as a result. Purdue was still competitive and a solid Week One foe for Louisville as they look to be in good hands under Jeff Brohm.
